I think the goverment didn't think about this issue when they decided to encourage people to have more kids and still make it a law to have all toddlers in carseats.
No doubt the law is for safety reasons, but it really makes it a bother for parents with more than one young kid at a time. For one, the carseats for infants and toddlers are so bloody big, having two of them in our decent size sedan car would leave one very miserable person stuck in the centre, if she can even fit in.
Ally's humongous carseat. Angie's is even bigger and is rear facing somemore.
Two, most people don't have those big MPVS, SUVS, PMVS,,, or whatever, and many don't want those type of vehicles. Small little me looks like a idiot driving those monster vehicles.
My brother who has 21/2 year old Rachel and 3 month old Reubens, tried strapping Rachel's car seat in the front passenger seat and the little brother's one at back. It worked out fine till Rachel kicked the gear one day ( thankfully while the car was stationary) but this was enough for the parents to decide to think of another arrangement for the car seats. Chances of a young toddler kicking her legs in happiness or frustration are extremely high and what would happen if the gear was kicked when the car is moving!
Anyway, unless someone has a better idea, we are caving in and will be getting the Mazda 5 MPV. It can seat 6 people and has 3 rows and sliding doors (like a van!) Not exactly the prettiest or smoothest car but it will serve our purposes till the kids are grown up - or maybe we will need it should there be a brood of kids. Ha. As for me, I will just have to learn how to look bigger and practise my parking - the monster vehicle ( not as bad as some others I've seen) seems very difficult to park.

Ha Ha. Oh no, I might be one of those who need help parking. I can never go to parkway now as I will be too stressed parking my monster in that crowded carpark. Somemore I always park head in can you believe it. the MPV might be difficult to park in that way.
I refused to cave in and buy an MPV. My brother had two huge car seats in a mid size sedan too. His secret which he passed on to me was get a tiny, but strong maid so that she could scoot over the seat into the middle. I laughed all the way to the car show room when I heard that.
eh suddenly i can see you in ally, tt pix of her looks so much like u when u smile.
carseats: erm. we're horribly negligent when it comes to this.
