The Quest for Sleep III: Initial Results

Day 1

Saturday night, we put her to bed early- 930pm. True to her naughty form, she woke up at 11pm. We let her cry!

Mark made me sleep outside in the living room while he kept watch over Ally in the bedroom. He knew I would cave in. He did right.

She cried for forty five minutes! To me, it felt like eternity. I cried along with her as I sat miserably by myself outside. It was so tragic. Each time, I just peeped in, the look on her face was heart wrenching. Once she was sitting up bawling her eyes out. Another time, she had crawled to our bed and climbed up ( a first! ) , as though desperate to find her mummy. Her crying was ceaseless and hysterical. She vomitted twice but she was safe and we held our stand. At the forty fifth minute, suddenly quiet sobs then silence.

We tiptoed back in to check... she had fallen asleep standing up! Sucess? We were encouraged but still skeptical. I was edgy over her next crying session.

The next time: 430am. She cried for just 10 mins! Then fell asleep in a half sitting position.

5am- cried a few seconds then slept.

Next day, she awoke at 8am! ( History had been made--- I didn't have to nurse her for 11 whole hours and she was fine! She woke up in a great mood, smiling at me and Mark ( who was convinced she would hate him since he was the one sneaking around her yet not responding to her!).

Day 2
We put her to bed at 8pm since she had a very short afternoon nap and was very tired. She did not finish her dinner and we thought, DIE!, sure wake up throughout the night hungry. My heart was thumping and I was real nervous about the next crying session.

Well, we were wrong! She woke up at 11pm, cried for just ten minutes and slept! The crying was different too, not so hysterical but calmer and quieter. She woke up twice again 20 minutes later but only cried for a few seconds before falling soundly asleep. The next time she woke up? 530 am!! I fed her then. She next awoke at 9am!

So the method seems to be working! I am crossing my fingers now and will update you guys soon again.
